C L O I S O N N E  E N A M E L

I have practiced the art of cloisonne enamel for over 25 years. Each jewel is an extension of my love for fine detail, beautiful color and a controlled design surface. I create a full series within my portfolio, floral, marine, geisha, celestial and commission requests. Each time I start a new piece the challenge from start to finish is as exciting as the first and last piece completed. I know that every piece selected is a unique form of adornment, truly a "contemporary heirloom"  To love and to last.
A selection of enamels are available for purchase.

Cloisonne cells or “cloisons” are formed by shaping fine 0.3 mm, 24k gold wire
with a pair of delicate tweezers and then cut to the correct length with small
scissors. The wire stands upright, so that the enamel may be placed against it.
When the wires are in place, the piece is fired in a kiln at about 1500 degrees, so
that the wires hold securely to the finesilver backing. The piece is then ready for
the color which is a finely ground glass mixed with distilled water. With a fine brush, the artist completes one layer at a time, until the top of the wire is reached. After the color has been fired, the piece is polished with wet
sandpaper, removing any irregularities. Oncethe enamel is finished, it is set in a 14k yellow or white gold mounting, and ready to be worn and enjoyed.

An old Master Goldsmith once said,"The art of goldsmithing is really very simple and can be summarized by ten techniques." However,"He said with a smile there are ten thousand tricks".
